Coming Sunday

This Sunday is the 17th Sunday After Pentecost. We welcome the Rev. Leigh Anne Ring to our worship service today. She is the new Transitional General Presbyter of the Presbytery of the Peaks. She has earned a Master of Christian Education as well as a Master of Divinity. She has served churches in both capacities, and served on the staff of the Presbytery of the James. Her message will be on “The Raining-Down-Bread God.” The choir will sing “Come, O Spirit, Truth Divine.”

We will start Sunday School this week, with Linda talking about her experience with PCUSA General Assembly, and many of the decisions reached there. Please come with questions.

The Session will hold its monthly stated meeting after Sunday School, which will include meeting with Rev. Ring to share thoughts about our church and its ministry, and how we can work together with Peaks Presbytery. 

Congregational Meetings

There will be a congregational meeting right after the church service on September 27 for members to vote on the slate of church officers presented by the Nominating Committee.

At the congregational meeting on September 13, the motion to change Linda's terms of call was passed. Linda will work ¾ time for a trial period of six months, starting in October. There will be a decrease in Linda’s salary, appropriate to serving ¾ time.

Ann Marie is heading a task force that will evaluate the change and report to the Session on a monthly basis. The group will also begin to look at the longer-term future of Northside.

Upcoming Services

Please mark your calendars with these dates as we remember those who have passed away. A memorial service for Rev. Dr. Hugh Springer, a former pastor of Northside, is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, at 11 a.m. There will also be a memorial service for long-time member Emily Bender. Both services will be at Northside. Details will be available closer to those dates.

Giving Opportunity!

Sophia Frimpong is setting up a school in Ghana. She is beginning with kindergarten and will gradually add other grades. Ordering things and having them sent directly to Ghana or buying local is the best option economically.  Desks and chairs are a priority.  If you would like to donate to Sophia’s education project you may write a check to Northside, noting that it is for the "Ghana school project."  You can also donate on line by selecting "Northside PC Ad Hoc Giving" and noting that the payment is for the "Ghana school project."

Monday Night Supper

The meal on Monday was pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, tater tots, fruit cup, and cookies. We served 101 meals. Helpers included Marge and George, Rosemary and Steve, Barbara, Susan, and Heidi and Bruce.

Volunteers to help prepare and pack meals are always welcome and needed.
