Coming Sunday

Linda will preach on “Bridging the Divide.”  The choir will sing “Come Bless the Lord” to enhance the worship service.

Sunday School starts after Fellowship time. Linda will continue with her series on the history of western Christianity and the kids will be having a short learning time with Susan downstairs during church time after they have their time in the sanctuary.

Godspeed

During the service last Sunday, we said goodbye to long-time members Gail and Caryl Gray, who are moving to Fredericksburg to be closer to family. They were joined in the service by sons Andy and Daniel.

Officer Elections

Last Sunday, the Nominating Committee presented a list of members to be elected as Elders, Deacons, and to the Memorials Board. Elected by the congregation to the Session class of 2028 were Sue Bentley, Heidi Harper, and Joe Hunnings. Betsy Stinson and Sandi Webster will complete their terms in January.

Elected as Deacons in the class of 2027 were Frieda Bostian, Pat Fullen, and Mary Lough. Elected as Deacons in the class of 2028 were Lisa Garcia, Lisa Green, and Lucian Robinson. Kay Hunnings and Traci McCoy will complete their terms in January.

Steve Cole was elected to a three-year term on the Memorials Board and will replace Nedra Underwood.

Women's Bible Study

The Women's Bible Study group will meet on Thursday, October 2, 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at English Meadows, 3400 S Point Dr. Books are available in the church office ($14) including 3 large-print versions ($20).

Jesus Said "Feed Them"

The Interfaith Food Pantry is in need of donations to meet the needs of the growing number of customers. The Mission Committee will help meet this need by holding a food drive on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the South Main Kroger. Volunteers are needed to collect donations and promote the food pantry and to help afterward to weigh and stock the shelves at the food pantry. Contact Heidi Harper (harperheida@gmail.com, 540-392-0057) for details.

The time is also drawing near to Feed the Flock at Ukirk on October 14. Contact Jane Jones (JJones7@moog.com) for details and to volunteer.

Worship Leader

The role of the volunteer scripture reader is changing to expand the participation in the service, per the Worship Committee. In addition to reading the scripture lesson, the call to worship and the prayer of praise are now included in the role. The prayer and scripture will be provided in advance. Once you have read the scripture you may go sit in the congregation. Sign up to volunteer using the sign-up system.

Volunteer Sign-up System

There are a variety of ways to serve the congregation by volunteering to help in the nursery, usher, host fellowship time, or be the liturgist during worship. There is now a form on the church website where you can pick the positions you wish to fill and the dates you will serve. Go to https://www.nsidepresbburg.org/volsign/ to start.

Select a position you are interested in helping with and click the "Submit" button. You will see a form that lists open dates for that position. Select the dates you are available to help, enter your name, phone number, and email, then submit the form. You will receive a confirmation email showing the position and dates you signed up for.

As always, you will receive a reminder email the Thursday before you are scheduled to help.

Community Sing-Along

"Justice Sings," a community Sing-Along Festival is taking place on Henderson Lawn on Sunday, Sept. 28, starting at 3 p.m. Local performers will lead a variety of recent and classic protest songs and other tunes. See https://nrvfestival.wixsite.com/justice-sings-2025 for the list of artists and music.
