Adult Forum Speaker

Our Adult Sunday School class will host Brooke Gill, Senior Program Manager with the
Alzheimer’s Association’s Central and Western Virginia Chapter, for a powerful and
practical conversation on companionship best practices for people living with progressive
memory loss.

Drawing on over 17 years of nonprofit leadership and her current work across 52 counties
in Virginia, Brooke will offer guidance on what helps—and what harms—when walking
alongside individuals affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Her talk will include
both "what to do" and "what not to do," rooted in compassion, research, and real-world
experience.

Brooke also serves as a regional Research Champion, holds a Master of Arts in Liberal
Studies from Hollins University, and is completing a certificate in Gerontology from the
University of Washington. In addition to her professional work, she fosters puppies for the
Roanoke Valley SPCA and serves as Vice President of the Ferrum College Alumni Board.

This session is open to all—please invite friends, family, caregivers, and anyone seeking to better understand how to accompany others with love, patience, and wisdom.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
— Galatians 6:2 (NIV)

Officer on Call

The officer on call for the week of May 11 - 17 is Marshall Chaney. He can be reached at 540-320-8083. The officer on call for the week of May 25 - 31 is Sue Bentley. She can be reached at 540-651-3170.

Special Music

The choir starts its summer break on June 1. This is now the time to consider offering special music over the summer months. You don't have to do a solo - find a friend or family member to join you! It could be vocal or instrumental, using recorded or live accompaniment (Pat or Marya might be available to play). There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex waiting to have dates filled in.

Lemonade on the Lawn

With June comes a shift from coffee and donuts in the sanctuary to lemonade outside on the lawn. This requires setting out a table, putting out the lemonade and cups, and cleaning up. There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex for those who want to help with this fellowship event.

Monday Night Supper

On Monday, the menu was chicken and waffles, greens, pinto beans, and pudding, all prepared by Alex Chaney. We gave out 78 meals. Helpers this week were: Marjorie and George, Barbara, Ann Marie, and Linda.

There will not be a meal on May 26 due to the Memorial Day holiday.

Service Opportunities

Every Sunday is open to serve Fellowship after worship. The sign-up sheet and instructions are on the Fellowship table. You can also contact secretary.northside@gmail.com to sign up.

There is a need for people to read the scripture each Sunday. Please contact secretary.northside@gmail.com to sign up.
