Coming Sunday and Beyond

This Sunday, Linda’s sermon will be on “What Do We Mean When We Say ‘Justification’?” The choir will perform “They'll Know We Are Christians.”

The Christian Education committee is gathering ideas for topics to explore this year and wants YOUR input!  We will gather this Sunday to introduce some ideas and see what the class is interested in studying/discussing. Please come to share any ideas you have and plan to be part of this interesting class.

Linda has started a sermon series on “What Do We Mean When We Say ‘. . .’?” The topics will include Sanctification, Predestination, and Perseverance of the Saints.

The annual congregational meeting is this Sunday, January 19, right after worship. The purpose is to elect the 2025 Nominating Committee, vote on Terms of Call for the Minister, and receive the Session Annual Reports and Budget. Copies of the Annual Report can be picked up at the church and will be available on Sunday. If you would like a PDF version emailed to you, contact secretary.northside@gmail.com and the file will be sent your way.

New Sustainable Technologies being developed

Agriculture developments -

. Drone sprayers for fertilizers and pesticides can target areas close to the ground and prevent nitrous oxide from reaching the atmosphere.

. Red algae and biochar can be mixed with cattle feed to decrease methane emissions by 85 to 90%.

. No till farming and crop rotation can prevent soil erosion and lower use of fertilizer and herbicides.

. Hedgerow plantings of pollinator species can help pollination and provide a corridor for bird habitat to reduce insect pests.

. Poorer quality land for farming can be converted to a solar farm with wind turbines to generate power for the farm and as a cash source by selling surplus to the grid. Hemp and biochar can produce revenue.

. Companion planting of vegetables, mixed crops can help with soil fertility, pests and deer browsing impacts.

Sustainable Things you can do at home

Buy locally produced produce at farmers markets and grocery stores that support local farms.

Support Community Sourced Agriculture (CSAs) by using them for home produce.
